Revisiting post: Could Benedict Donald wag the dog in Syria?

The Bulldog Barks

Four days ago (Feb 9th), I posted about the possibility that our #PoserPrez would use a military conflict to distract the country from his many outrages and crimes. I went into the situations in Iran and North Korea with a modicum of deal, but wrote that I believed the most serious situation was the still-intensifying situation with American military advisers facing off against their Russian counterparts--who are very closely allied with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad's military--in that country's intractable civil war.

The military clash that I talked about in that post was very serious. And it turns out that it was much more serious than anyone knew at the time. The news that there were dozens of Russians killed when we fought off the attack by the pro-government, Kremlin-backed forces puts the whole matter in a very different light.

This--as you might image--has raised in stakes in Syria. A lot. Folks can opine about whether it being a bigger deal than we realized makes it more likely or less likely for it to blow up. I would not say that I know for certain either way.

But the bottom line is that the U.S. is in the monumentally-shitty position of having a petty, grudge-holding, power-hungry madman with zero military experience or expertise as the Commander-in-Chief as this dangerous situation intensifies.

And the craziest thing of all is that it's quite possible that this potential catastrophe is not even the most grave situation we face because this madman was elevated to the most powerful position on the planet.

Just one more thing to keep your eye on, citizen. Welcome to life in tRump's Amerikkka.
